The Greene County baseball team picked up three wins and two losses last week, winning their first round of district play. Greene County is 8-14 on season with the next game at defending Class 2A state champion Van Meter rescheduled from July 5 to July 6 due to weather.
The Rams hosted Perry for a double header on Monday, June 27. Greene County won both games, the first 10-0 and the second 10-1.
GC blew open the game against Perry with six runs in the fifth inning. The team belted out 13 hits with Brayden Roberts and Bryce Stalder slamming triples. Justin Stream had a pair of doubles for three RBIs while Gabe Ebersole rapped one. Max Riley had three base hits.
Joe Carey was on the mound for the first game, allowing one hit with 10 strikeouts.
In the second game, the Rams roared out to a 5-1 lead in the second and ground out three more in the fourth. Collecting doubles were Roberts, Kole Teeples and Stream. Joe Carey was credited with three RBIs on three base hits. Riley had a pair of singles. Stalder pitched, resulting in five hits, one walk, one hit batter and 10 strikeouts.
Southeast Valley visited the Rams on Tuesday, beating the home team 6-3. GC gave up five runs in the third in suffering the non-conference loss. Stalder launched a triple, double and single while Teeples batted three base hits.
On the field, there were 21 putouts, six from Roberts in the catcher’s gear. Teeples and Matthew Hovick threw 129 pitches, allowing nine hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
Wednesday brought another loss for the Rams, falling to Nevada 10-0. There was just one hit, a single from Riley, as the Rams struck out nine times. Roberts and Noah Hinote pitched for 11 hits, five walks and four strikeouts.
Greene County traveled to West Central Valley in Stuart Saturday to face Panorama in the first round of district action, taking the win 7-0.
The Rams scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to blank the Panthers. Stream powered a home run to lead the offense with Stalder adding a double and a single. Also collecting hits were Riley (2), Teeples, Dakota Mobley and Ebersole.
On the field, there were 22 putouts with two errors, with Stalder and Carey pitching for three hits, one hit batter and 13 strikeouts.
